A large Balinese relief panel dating from around the 1960s to 1970s, carved in Balinese mahogany with a forest scene from the Ramayana: the archer prince among trees, deer, and temple gates, with Garuda and guardian figures worked into dense foliage above. The depth of the carving is exceptional, layer upon layer pierced right through the panel, and the naturally reddish mahogany has developed a warm, glossy patina through age and handling. A statement piece of real presence, finished on the reverse with a fixing for hanging. Consistent with its age, it shows minor old losses and chips to some of the finest carved tips, and natural age cracks in the wood; these are characteristic of hand-carved panels of this period and are shown in the photographs.
