A monumental North Indian haveli door, complete with its original carved frame, in the tradition of the old courtyard houses of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Two heavy panelled doors sit within a deep carved surround, and every surface is worked by hand: a scrolling foliate lintel over rows of beading and rosettes, side jambs carved with diamond and flower motifs, and the door leaves laid out in a grid of recessed square panels crossed by iron strap bands, set with brass floret studs and hung with ring pulls. An old blue enamel house-number plate survives on the frame, along with an inscribed metal plaque, the honest record of a door that was genuinely lived with. Doors like this were made as the formal entrance to a family haveli and were built to last for generations. We do not overclaim its exact age. The construction, the hardware, and the depth of the wear are all consistent with a genuine old door. It is intended to mount against a wall as a single architectural statement rather than to be re-hung as a working door. The top cornice projects 23 cm from the wall while the rest of the frame sits 14 cm deep, and an iron ring is fixed to the reverse for hanging. At 196 cm tall and 138 cm wide it is a commanding, room-defining piece for an entrance, a stair wall, or a long hallway. A very heavy, multi-person lift.
