Every piece here is bought or traded in by us and owned outright, so you deal directly with the house: one curation standard, one point of accountability, no middlemen.

The collection is sourced across Southeast Asia, with select pieces from further afield, and grows weekly with pieces bought and traded in from private collections across Singapore.

Not everything makes it onto The Bougainvilla. Every piece is reviewed before it is listed, and the test is simple: if we would not own it ourselves, we will not sell it.

Craftsmanship

We look for pieces that were made with care, whether by hand or by a maker who understood their material. We would rather help you find something special with a story than list a reproduction.

Condition

Every item must be structurally sound and display-ready. We note all wear, patina, repairs, and imperfections in every listing. No surprises.

Character

The piece has to earn its place in a room. If it does not stop us when we see it, it will not stop you either.

Value

Every piece is priced to reflect its true worth, typically 20 to 30% below what comparable pieces command at galleries and traditional dealers. Not inflated, not undercut. Our buyers trust that what they see reflects genuine value.

The Buyback Promise

Pieces bought from The Bougainvilla hold their value here, and we guarantee it. Bring back a piece you purchased from us and receive trade-in credit of 60% of the piece's sold price for purchases of SGD 500 to 1,000, and 70% for purchases above SGD 1,000. The sold price is the price of the piece itself; delivery charges in either direction are not part of the calculation.

The promise holds for 24 months from delivery, after a minimum of six months of ownership, provided the piece returns in the condition it left us, allowing for careful display. Return of the piece to us is arranged and borne by you, and credit is usable on anything in the collection.

We can stand behind our pricing this way for a simple reason: we would not have sold you the piece unless we were happy to own it again.

What we accept

Vintage home decor, decorative art, Asian heritage objects, mid-century furniture, ceramics, metalwork, carved wood, and distinctive collectibles. Items should be in good condition with genuine visual or historical appeal.

We consider pieces with an expected resale value of SGD 250 and above.

How it works

Submit photos and a brief description of your item through our submission form.

We review your submission. If it meets our standards, we arrange a viewing or request additional images.

We value your piece against current market knowledge and make you an offer: cash, trade-in credit, or both for you to choose between.

You accept the offer that suits you. Cash is paid immediately; credit is issued to your account and usable on anything in the collection.

We coordinate collection of your piece. Nothing else for you to do.

You do not need to begin with a statement statue. A vintage lamp, a small bronze, a carved fragment in the SGD 250 to 500 range does real work in a room and teaches you what you respond to. Caring for Your Pieces in Singapore’s Climate

Humidity is the collector’s constant companion. Here is how to live with it well.

Singapore sits at 80% humidity most of the year, and every material in your collection responds to it. None of this should worry you. Pieces that have survived decades in Southeast Asia are proven in this climate. They simply ask for placement and habits that respect what they are made of.

Carved wood and teak

Wood moves with moisture, which is normal and mostly harmless. What harms it is rapid change: the blast of an air-conditioning vent, direct afternoon sun through glass, or a damp exterior wall. Give carved pieces a stable spot away from vents and windows, and dust with a soft dry cloth, working along the grain and into carving with a soft brush. Avoid silicone sprays and supermarket polishes, which build residue that is difficult to reverse.

Bronze and brass

The single most expensive mistake in metal care is polishing. The deep, uneven surface on aged bronze is patina, formed over decades, and it is a large part of both the beauty and the value. Dust it, enjoy it, and leave it alone. If a piece needs more than dusting, ask us before acting.

Iron and vintage metals

Cast iron and vintage steel prefer dry stability. Keep them off balconies and away from open windows, wipe with a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one, and a thin coat of microcrystalline wax once a year will hold surface rust at bay.

Stone and fossils

The most forgiving members of a collection. Stable placement, occasional dusting with a soft brush, and no chemical cleaners of any kind. Their mounts, usually metal or wood, follow the rules above.

Placement is most of the battle

A few centimetres of breathing room from exterior walls, out of direct sun, away from vents and kitchens. Get placement right and most care becomes nothing more than gentle dusting.

Visitors often ask how The Bougainvilla offers pieces of gallery quality at prices typically 20 to 30% below what comparable works command through traditional dealers. The answer is not lower standards. It is a different cost structure, and a different conviction about how quickly a beautiful object should find its home.

No storefront, by design

A traditional gallery carries the cost of prime retail frontage, and that cost is built into every price tag on its floor. We are fully online. Our collection is photographed, catalogued, insured, and stored in our own warehouse facility, which operates at a fraction of the cost of a showroom.

We own everything we sell

Every piece in the collection is bought outright. There are no consignment commissions layered into the price, and no buyer’s premium of the kind auction houses add above the hammer. One margin sits between the piece and you, ours, and we keep it disciplined. That discipline starts on the way in: we do not acquire a piece unless the price is right at acquisition, because careful buying is the foundation of fair selling.

Technology where it counts

We run a deliberately lean operation, using AI and modern tooling across cataloguing, valuation research, photography workflow, and administration. Every hour of overhead saved is cost that never reaches a price tag.

Volume over margin

We price pieces to find their homes in weeks, not seasons. A gallery may hold a piece for a year waiting for one buyer at an aspirational price. We would rather keep the collection moving at honest prices, and the volume that follows is what allows us to work on thinner margins piece by piece. It also means the collection you browse is always fresh.

What we never compromise

The curation standard is absolute: we will not sell anything we would not be proud to own ourselves. Condition is fully disclosed on every listing. Storage is insured and handling is careful. Lower prices here reflect lower costs and faster movement, never lower standards.

The Buyback Promise: Terms

The piece you buy today holds its value here.

Eligibility

The Buyback Promise applies to pieces purchased from The Bougainvilla with a sold price of SGD 500 or more. The sold price is the price of the piece itself and excludes delivery charges in either direction.

Credit

Pieces with a sold price of SGD 500 to 1,000 receive trade-in credit of 60% of the sold price. Pieces with a sold price above SGD 1,000 receive 70% of the sold price. Credit is issued once the returned piece has been inspected and accepted.

Window and ownership

The promise is valid for 24 months from the date of delivery, after a minimum of six months of ownership.

Condition

The piece must return in the condition it left us, allowing for careful display. Every piece is photographed and documented before delivery, and returns are assessed against that record. Damage, alteration, restoration, or repair not present at the time of sale will void the promise for that piece. Assessment is carried out by us upon inspection.

Logistics

Return of the piece to us is arranged and paid for by you. Original delivery charges are not credited and are not part of the credit calculation.

Credit terms

Trade-in credit is usable on anything in the collection, is not transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash in whole or in part.

What we collect

When you enquire, buy, sell, or trade with us, we may collect your name, contact number, delivery address, and the details of your transactions with us, including pieces purchased and any trade-in credit or Buyback Promise records held in your name. Most of this reaches us through WhatsApp, email, or our submission form, because you chose to send it.

How we use it

We use your data to respond to enquiries, arrange valuations, deliveries, and collections, maintain accurate records of purchases, credit balances, and Buyback Promise eligibility, and contact you about your own transactions. We do not send marketing messages unless you have asked to hear from us, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

Who we share it with

Only what is necessary, and only with parties who need it: delivery partners receive your name, contact number, and address to complete a delivery, and payment providers process payments under their own terms. We may also disclose data where the law requires it. Conversations held on WhatsApp are additionally subject to WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy policy.

How long we keep it

Transaction records are retained for as long as needed to honour the Buyback Promise, maintain credit balances, and meet our legal and accounting obligations, and no longer than that.

Your rights
