A wall mirror crowned by an antique Teochew gilt carved panel, the kind of deep figural woodwork that once dressed the beds and shrines of Chaozhou homes. The panel is worked in pierced relief with a gathering of robed elders and attendants among pine and blossom, a deer resting at their feet, finished in gold over a red lacquer ground now softly worn with age. Below sits a bevelled mirror plate in a warm hardwood frame, with a brass fitting for hanging. It carries the same carving tradition as our Teochew red lacquer cabinet and gilt woodcarving panel, at a scale that works over a console, a sideboard, or an entryway.
