A tall carved wood standing Buddha in the Burmese Mandalay manner, the right hand raised in abhaya mudra, the gesture of reassurance, do not fear, and the left lowered at the side. The serene downcast face, domed ushnisha, and the deep folds of the monastic robe are all carved by hand, and the gilt lacquer surface has worn back to black and warm gold over long years, the kind of patina that cannot be faked. It stands on a lotus base and comes with the carved hardwood stand shown, so it arrives ready to hold a corner, an entryway, or a quiet meditative spot. At over a metre tall it has real presence.
